Walking Tour-55 Buffalo Street-Walking Tour
(East Side of Street)

This Greek Revival style house, the reverse of the house to the north , was built 1860/61 for/by G.B. Bartlett. The footprint of the building seen on the 1872 map of the Village, compared to the present footprint, shows that an addition to the street facade at the north end was constructed in the intervening time, increasing interior space and recessing the porch. Additions to the east facade were also constructed.

The Greek Revival elements of the house are evident in the broken pediment and wide entablature under the low-pitched gable roof of the street facing one & 1/2 story section of the house; the entablature which is carried on engaged pilasters at the corners; and the single story wing with recessed porch. The proportion of the six over six-light symmetrically placed windows under the gable roof is also typical of the style.
