Welcome to the Independence Township Library's Community Information Network. We hope this web site serves as a valuable research tool and an inspiration for the continuing collection of accurate community history. As we build this Information Network you will find current information about local governments as well as information about the history of Independence Township and the City of the Village of Clarkston.
This Historic District part of the site includes a "walking tour" of the The Village of Clarkston's Historic District, extensive genealogy and property information and hundreds of photographs. In the future with your help we plan to include information about other Village buildings as well as important historic sites in Independence Township. Your contribution to this history of our "neighborhood" is eagerly anticipated.
I would like to thank all those who provided information for this project, especially Daniel Addis, Ruth Addis, Art Pappas, Daisy Dowling, Mrs. Ronald Walter, Mr. & Mrs. Jerome Wilford, Charles Roberston, Louise McClintock, Mrs. Rexford, Marie Frederick, Muriel Spencer, Ruth Davies, Alma Goldner, Marilyn Hanson, Judy Roeser, Doris McElmurray, Laura Stern, Nadine Thompson, Dan Colombo, Sandra Conlen, the Henry Ford Museum and the Clarkston Community Historical Society.
Finally, I would like to thank Susan and Bill Basinger for their time and effort in developing the Clarkston Historic District area of this site. Susan for her dedication and extensive work in researching and compiling information about the District, its structures and our community's personal histories and Bill and Susan for creating the District web site pages.
